(ANS - New Delhi) - That the Salesian organization "Don Bosco Network" has created a vast relief campaign aimed at all those who have been most severely affected by the effects of the pandemic is now known to all. Since the imposition of the first lockdown, in March of this year, the "Don Bosco Network" has in fact mobilized resources to be allocated to the most vulnerable and marginalized people.

Basic necessities, food kits, personal hygiene products and protective devices such as masks have been distributed. This was possible thanks to the collaboration with the 11 Planning and Development Offices (PDO) and with numerous local partners.

As illustrated in a report released on July 8, the main fields of intervention of the "Don Bosco Network" were:

1. Distribution of kits containing food rations;

2. Distribution of cooked food;

3. Distribution of meals to traveling migrants;

4. Distribution of biscuits, cakes, baby kits, chapati (a type of bread), yogurt, water;

5. Distribution of health packages;

6. Distribution of masks;

7. Consulting services;

8. Cash/cash transfers for work;

9. Contribution to government relief funds.

To give some concrete data, at the date of publication of the report, the "Don Bosco Network" distributed 518,607 masks and 183,150 kits of food rations in India. 605,958 people were the beneficiaries of cooked food, while 3,512 people turned to the consultancy services.

The beneficiaries of the aid were a total of over 2.5 million people, especially the poor, migrants, slum dwellers, the elderly and other vulnerable categories.

Aid is always distributed following a precise procedure. First of all, the "Don Bosco Network" mobilizes to obtain permits and preventive authorizations from the authorities to circulate in vehicles. Then, with the police or other government officials, it arranges security measures. Only at this point are the volunteers mobilized, who always follow the guidelines dictated by the authorities. Volunteers are also required to record the beneficiaries' documentation, to guarantee the benefactors and the various sponsoring bodies. Finally, the distribution of basic necessities is carried out in a safe, dignified and respectful way for all.

The "Don Bosco Network", in the final part of the report, has wanted to thank all the partner organizations and benefactors, who with their solidarity have contributed to the support of many needy people throughout India.
