Spain - Blessing of Sacred Heart Chapel

Barcelona, Spain - 1886 - On July 3, 1886, the Chapel of the Sacred Heart desired by Dorothea de Chopitea was blessed in Barcelona. Later, on the same site, the Salesians had the Expiatory and National Temple of the Sacred Heart of Jesus built, which today is known as the Tibidabo Shrine.

Estoril, Portugal - 1932 - Pupils of the Salesian elementary school in Estoril, Portugal are pictured here in a photograph taken before classes began in the 1932/33 school year. Appearing with the youngsters are Salesian José Joaquim Silva and Fr. José da Silva Lucas, Rector and Novice Master.

Ljubljana, Slovenia - 1908 - Fr Michele Rua, Don Bosco's First Successor, sent the first Slovenian Salesian Cooperators to Ljubljana Rakovnik in 1901 after the first contacts with the Salesian Cooperators. Subsequently, Fr Rua visited the Salesian work in Ljubljana Rakovnik twice: in 1904 when the cornerstone of the shrine of Mary Help of Christians was blessed and in 1908 (in photograph) when he stopped there on his way to the Holy Land on pilgrimage.

São Paulo, Brazil - 1897 - This ancient image, dating back to 1897 and belonging to the provincial archive of the Province of Brazil-São Paulo, portrays an exhibition in which handicraft works were exhibited, work produced by the students of the “Sacred Heart of Jesus” secondary school of São Paulo during vocational courses. Photography is part of the vast online collection of MOSB, the Museum of Salesian Work in Brazil, which can also be visited through Google Arts & Culture.
