In addition to reorganizing the content into learning modules focused on specific practical skills, the method operates a methodological conversion that focuses on the student as the main actor of the learning phenomenon. The student should be curious, full of initiative, persevering and organized. A similar student must find new information and know how to use new technologies, to know how to collect and share them. In this sense the teacher plays the role of a facilitator who supports the student, who organizes activities, advises, accompanies, encourages and supports.
During the whole 2017-2018 school year, dr. Daoudi has made regular visits to Haiti to train the formators and administrative and managerial staff of Salesian centers and accompany them in the implementation of this learning approach. He also worked diligently to provide assessments and advice on the current situation of Salesian centers.
While there is still a lot to be done in the transition to a full competence-based approach, there is much hope that this new style can bring great benefits to Haitian youth, so much in need of sharing and building a future, fully aware of their own means.
In the face of the natural disasters that have struck Haiti in recent years, and faced with the many problems that still afflict the country, the students of the Salesian Vocational Training Centers will be more actively involved in their education and better equipped to pursue their dreams.
