Dominican Republic - The Rector Major has arrived! He begins the feast of the Father with his beloved children

31 January 2017

(ANS - Santo Domingo) - The Rector Major, Fr Ángel Fernández Artime, has arrived in "Quisqueyana", the name given by local indigenous people to the Dominican Republic. It means "Mother of the earth". Fr Á.F. Artime was welcomed at the international airport of Santo Domingo by young people from "Plaza Educativa Don Bosco."  He left the airport shortly after 18.00 local time, accompanied by Archbishop Louis Kébreau SDB, of Cap-Haitien, Fr Francisco Batista, Provincial of the Antilles (ANT), and the Rector Major’s Secretary, Fr Horacio López.

So began the visit of the Tenth Successor of Don Bosco to the Antilles, to celebrate 100 years of Salesian presence in that area. The demonstrations of affection were numerous and intense. The young people embraced him like a real father and received his blessing.

With a fatherly attitude and spirit of closeness, the Rector Major was available to everyone for photos and selfies, and he greeted and joked with all the young people.

They presented him with a typical sombrero, much appreciated by the Rector Major.

After these intense moments, the Rector Major arrived at the Provincial House, 27km away. There also he greeted everyone with a big smile – testimony to his spiritual strength.

At the Provincial House, he was welcomed with festive songs by the young people in formation -  pre-novices, novices, post-novices, practical trainees and 3 aspirants. Fr Á.F. Artime then greeted all the Salesians and in particular Fr José Pastor Ramirez, former World Delegate for the Past Pupils.
