The course, conducted by Fr Maciej Makula SDB along with Miss Aleksandra Stankiewicz, and was held from 10th November to 12th November 2024. The course aimed to equip young individuals with the skills and knowledge necessary to harness the power of mobile technology to create impactful stories, powerful content and advocate for social change. Through instructions and hands-on exercises, participants delved into the fundamentals of mobile journalism, exploring topics such as shot types, shot sizes, shot angles, composition skills, lighting, mobile storytelling, editing and publishing the content to the social media.
The mobile journalism course in Arusha was more than just a formation program; it was a catalyst for personal experience and collective growth. Participants emerged from the experience not only with enhanced technical skills but also with a renewed sense of purpose and a commitment of using our mobile phone to make a difference. As digital missionaries, we poised to shape the future of young people on how they have to make use of their mobile phones.
Beyond the technical aspects of mobile journalism, the course emphasized us about the importance of digital activism. We were encouraged to use newly acquired skills to become digital missionaries, spreading awareness about important social issues and inspiring others to take action.
Much enriched with the photo taking session, and taking videos from different angles, different sizes etc. gave us more awareness and strengthened our ability more than before. We could be aware and rectify different mistakes which we were making before while capturing photos or shooting videos.
One of the most significant aspects of the course was conducting interviews. These gave us more confidence to stand before the camera and share our ideas before others, and it was a good chance to know ourselves and how we can handle the situation.
The group experience was equally enriching. Participants formed collaborative teams, working together to produce multimedia content on various topics. This collaborative process not only honed their technical skills but also fostered a sense of camaraderie and shared purpose. Through constructive feedback and peer review, participants were able to refine their work and learn from each other's strengths and weaknesses.
The mobile journalism course is very interesting, has much potential and is very much needed in this contemporary world. As we embark on our journey as digital missionaries, we are excited to use these skills to give a voice to the voiceless and inspire positive change among the young people and the Church.
