These 39 projects compete in four areas: "Industrial technologies"; "Communications and information and communication technologies" (ICT); "Sciences"; and "Health, social and legal sciences". During the history of this competition – which since its creation in 1984 has made important contributions to the field of education and relations between academia and business – a total of 1,195 projects have been submitted.
The Don Bosco Awards are a showcase for entrepreneurial initiatives applicable to future business projects. All the projects presented can be examined at the Projects Exhibition to be held in the Salesians of Zaragoza sports pavilion open to the public on 20 and 21 March. On the 20th, at 6:30 p.m., the award ceremony will begin in the downtown theatre in the presence of numerous civil, business and Salesian authorities.
This year, public, subsidised and private schools from nine Autonomous Communities are participating: Andalusia, Catalonia, Castilla-León, Madrid, Valencia, La Rioja, Murcia, the Basque Country and Aragon.
The type of projects is very varied. A total of 16 projects will compete in the industrial area, which includes mechatronics, electronics and robotics. Eleven projects compete in the area of communications, with telecommunications, audiovisual technologies, ICT. The scientific area will have 6 projects, which include physics, chemistry and mathematics. And 6 projects will participate in the area of health sciences and social and legal sciences, which evaluates projects in medicine, psychology, humanities.
In total, 9 prizes are awarded by area: three first prizes of 1,500 euro, plus recognition and diploma; three second prizes of 750 euro, plus recognition and diploma; and three third prizes of 500 euro, plus recognition and diploma.
One of the great achievements of the Don Bosco National Award is that it has managed to involve public institutions, universities and companies that, as sponsors, collaborators or suppliers, combine their interests in favour of technological innovation promoted by young people.
The pavilion will exhibit the participating projects and will be open to the public on March 20, from 11:00 to 14:00 and from 16:00 to 17:30, and on March 21, from 10:00 to 14:00 and from 17:30 to 18:30. The award ceremony will start at 19:00 in the theatre of the Salesian school and will be broadcast online on the website dedicated to the competition.
