RMG – Salesian Volunteer Program Gains Momentum with Congregational-Level Meeting

05 March 2024

(ANS – Rome) – In an inspiring move to foster a spirit of missionary service and community engagement, the Salesian Volunteer Advisory Board and Mission and Youth Ministry Counselors have set a plan in motion to promote their volunteer program at a congregational level. The initiative is set to commence on a promising note today, Tuesday, March 5, 2024, with a gathering of 45 SDBs and Laity from various provinces where the volunteer program has already been established locally.

The upcoming days are charged with anticipation as they are expected to be transformative. The program is meticulously structured, each day dedicated to exploring various facets of the Salesian volunteer identity. Participants will delve into topics such as the essence of the Salesian volunteer, their formation process, the collaboration between laity and religious, mentorship, and the importance of creating a network of support and communication among volunteer organizations.

The gathering is planned to be highly interactive, incorporating various techniques to encourage reflection. These techniques are designed to engage participants fully and foster a deeper understanding and commitment to the Salesian mission.

The advisory board and counselors will introduce the Salesian missionary volunteer cross in a symbolic gesture that reinforces the sense of unity and purpose among volunteers. This emblem is intended for use by all volunteers within the congregation, serving as a visual and spiritual reminder of their commitment to the mission and values of the Salesian community.

The ultimate goal of this gathering is to harvest a set of shared reflections that will serve as a guide for the continued promotion of Salesian volunteer missionaries. By providing a platform for exchange and collective contemplation, the board aims to ensure that the roots of the volunteer program remain strong and continue to nourish the missionary work of the Salesians.

As the Salesian congregation looks forward to this significant event, there is a palpable sense of enthusiasm about its potential impact on the volunteer program and the broader community. This initiative marks an important step in empowering volunteer organizations to embody the spirit of service that is at the heart of Salesian values and, in doing so, to make a positive difference in the world.
