This unfortunate event, witnessed by Fr Maciej Makuła, member of the Sector for Social Communication and contact person in the Sector for the Africa-Madagascar Region, during his visit to the Democratic Republic of the Congo, is compromising the smooth running of the programmes and the stability of what is the first Salesian radio in Central Africa, which is experiencing enormous difficulties due to its nature as a community radio – and therefore the lack of self-financing resources.
For this reason, in response to this situation Radio Don Bosco Lubumbashi is launching an appeal for solidarity to all sister broadcasters in the Salesian world, from Madagascar to Latin America, passing through Rome and without forgetting Asian countries, to help it buy a new transmitter (or get hold of another one, even if used) to continue spreading the Gospel and contribute to enriching the culture of young people in Lubumbashi and its surroundings, with the great hope of perhaps being able to extend its broadcasts to other distant locations with a Salesian presence, such as Goma, Bukavu, Kalemie... and maybe throughout the national territory.
Moreover, in addition to renewing its technical tools, Radio Don Bosco Lubumbashi is also looking for new skills. In fact, computer specialists (web masters or web page creators and managers), content creators, social network specialists, influencers, electronic engineers, online or print journalists, developers of projects for financing would be more than welcome... , if they are able to help the growth and development of this broadcaster, ferrying it towards a new more technologically advanced era with a greater social impact on the population.
Finally, it is worth remembering that Radio Don Bosco Lubumbashi began broadcasting in 2014 and that it will celebrate its tenth anniversary on 10 April 2024. A birthday that currently sees it in an uncertain situation, with many difficulties in moving forward given the meagre financial resources with which it began this apostolate and with which it is still struggling.
