Throughout December, through various activities funds and donations were raised to support 4 projects, all related to a redevelopment plan for the Boarding House. At the Salesian centre in Lahore, the Boarding House does not simply have the function of hosting many of the young people who attend school or the Technical Training Centre: it has its own educational plan aimed at the integral formation of the individual, and offers differentiated training opportunities according to aptitudes to 150 young people between the ages of 12 and 20.
The first project focuses on musical activities. The musical courses during the evening free time aim to encourage an interest in making music with others by opening up to greater socialisation and collaboration, to offer the opportunity to go from simple users to performers, through the experience of "making music". In summary: develop a rhythmic and harmonic sense; encourage perfection of instrumental technique with the chosen instrument.
The second project focuses on sports activities. The sports activities, carried out in the afternoon, aim at actively participating in the various forms of play, including competition, collaborating with others and respecting the rules; improving endurance, speed, flexibility, willpower and coordination skills; promoting correct and healthy lifestyles.
The third project focuses on recreational and formative activities. The Salesians intend to educate through these activities through viewing films, encouraging debate on the issues to grasp the most relevant aspects and develop a critical spirit; encouraging young people to ask questions of meaning and grasp the intertwining of the religious and cultural dimension; offering an adequate knowledge of Christianity; providing moments of leisure through dancing, control of movements and coordination.
Finally, the fourth project, thanks to the collaboration with a professional, focuses on the psychological control of emotions and affectivity. It aims at allowing them to understand personal and family fears, as well as feelings of guilt and negative emotions; acquire self-acceptance and self-compassion; transform self-harm behaviours into self-improvement behaviours; acquire mature affectivity.
The commitment of everyone made it possible to raise 6,000 euro from a single school, helping to develop these projects.
