In the Warsaw Cathedral itself, where his tomb is located, the faithful gathered in the evening of 22 October for a common prayer, presided over by Cardinal Kazimierz Nycz, Archbishop of Warsaw.
The celebrations also took place in Gniezno, where the Primate's heart is kept. Members of the Society of Christ took part in the solemn Eucharist presided over by Archbishop Wojciech Polak, Archbishop of Gniezno and Primate of Poland. In his homily, delivered by the Superior General of the Society of Christ, Fr Krzysztof Olejnik, the merits of Cardinal Hlond's pastoral service were recalled. He highlighted the promotion of the apostolate of the laity in the life of the Church and his commitment to the formation of the moral conscience of the faithful. St. John Paul II, whose pontificate began to realize the prophetic words spoken by Cardinal Hlond on his deathbed, was also recalled in his liturgical memorial: "Struggle under the protection of the Blessed Virgin Mary. The victory, when it comes, will be the victory of the Blessed Mother'.
In Cardinal Hlond's hometown, Brzęczkowice, there was a moment of prayer presided over by Mgr Grzegorz Olszowski, the Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of Katowice.
The Salesians who minister in the parish of St John Bosco in Szczecin also commemorated the Venerable Augustus Hlond on 21 October, on the occasion of a formation meeting of the Zealots of the Living Rosary, with a solemn Eucharist presided over by the Archbishop of Szczecin-Kamień, Rt. Rev. Andrzej Dzięga. In the homily, delivered by Archbishop Henryk Wejman, the Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese, Cardinal Hlond's contribution to the construction of pastoral structures in the Oder and Baltic Sea regions was recalled, as he personally visited these lands in October 1947, despite the harassment by the state authorities. His great Marian devotion and the inspiration generated from his pastoral work were also recalled, along with his incredible and profound ability to read the signs of the times: "Through the toil, pain, humiliation, blood and holiness of the Church, we are moving towards one of the greatest triumphs of Christ".
This was followed by a symposium with two papers presentations that outlined testimony of Venerable August Hlond. Fr Jarosław Wąsowicz, SDB, developed the theme: 'At the spiritual school of the Primate August Hlond: Metropolitan Archbishop Antoni Baraniak SDB'; while Jan Łopuszański dealt with the theme: 'The Primate of the Millennium (Cardinal Stefan Wyszyński), spiritual heir of his predecessors'.
Vice-Postulator Fr Bogusław Kozioł, SChr, presented the status of the Cause of Beatification, encouraging everyone to pray asking for the intercession of Salesian Cardinal Augustus Hlond.
