The "Artur Schnabel" international festival is named after the Austrian composer and pianist known for revisiting Schubert sonatas and, even more so, Beethoven sonatas; his 1935 recordings of Ludwig van Beethoven's 32 Sonatas were the world's first, and are considered by many to be the touchstone of Beethoven's interpretation of piano sonatas.
