This appointment is intended to mark a continuity of action in relation to the Communication Plan of the Americas (concerning the Salesian regions: America South Cone and Interamerica) and will have as its main focus the third line of the Rector Major's program guidelines for 2020-2026: Living the "Salesian Sacrament of Presence." Specifically, the meeting aims to promote moments of formation in the Salesian charism for Salesian radio teams in America, especially for the young people who make up the teams, and thus implement a Salesian formation program for Salesian radio stations.
The General Councilor for Social Communication, Fr. Gildasio Mendes, believes the meeting shall serve to evaluate, share and map out the lines of action for 2022-2023. "After two years without in-presence meetings, this meeting is a real 'sacrament of presence.' To be together as friends, to share experiences, to strengthen our charismatic identity as Salesian communicators through radio, and to define together our way of radio networking," he said.
According to Zaida Navarrete, Coordinator of the Social Communication Team of America (ECSA), the meeting is sure to provide a rich exchange of experiences. "We will have the opportunity to share the different realities experienced by Salesian radio stations and to work from a planning and training perspective for communicators."
Francisco Freitas, administrative manager and communicator of "FM Pe. Cícero," from Juazeiro do Norte, has already confirmed his attendance and confesses to looking forward to the meeting. "Part of the Salesian charism is the culture of encounter. Therefore, our expectation for this moment that we will experience in September is to be able to share experiences and animate the Salesian network of radio stations in contributing to evangelization and education of young people and their families," Freitas emphasized.
The event, which will be held at the Pius XI Center in the Alto da Lapa neighborhood of São Paulo, will feature two main lectures: "Communication and Youth: Challenges and Perspectives", with Daniel Gomes (journalist for "Radio 9 de Julho" and the daily newspaper "O São Paulo"); and "Communication: living the Salesian sacrament of presence, from the perspective of the Emmaus text", with RSB Executive Director and General Coordinator of Edebê Publishing House, Fr. Nivaldo Luiz Pessinatti.
