The interview was coordinated by Fr Maciej Makula, Coordinator of the religious program of the Polish state TV station, and conducted by Fr Mariusz Jawny, Communications Coordinator for the Central and Northern Europe Region.
During the interview Fr Mendes spoke of the importance of promoting - with great clarity and institutional unity, with the Church and the entire Salesian Congregation - concrete policy and action in the field of communication for the building of peace in today's world. "Don Bosco was an educator who promoted peace...," he stated.
In a clear and direct manner, the General Councilor added that it is urgent to stop the war in Ukraine and to open a path of dialogue starting from just and united political and economic ethics.
Fr Mendes also highlighted the immense work being done by the Salesians in Poland through the Salesian Mission Office in Warsaw and in the many Salesian communities that welcome refugees in Salesian homes with fraternity and solidarity, as well as throughout the world, thanks to the international Coordination of the Salesian response to emergencies.
In his message, the General Councilor for Social Communication then makes an appeal for Communications Delegates and media managers to promote an ethic of communication for the building of peace and solidarity in Ukraine, as in Haiti, Venezuela, Ethiopia, Myanmar... and throughout the world.
The full interview with Father Mendes, which will be broadcast on Polish TV on Sunday, March 27, is available on ANSChannel in English, and with subtitles in Italian, Spanish, French and Portuguese.
