During the meeting, coordinated by Fr. Ernest Rosario, the team reviewed some activities and projected others taken from the planning of Communication of the Sector of Communication for the year 2022.
The team reviewed the SSSC (Salesian School of Social Communication), a project of formation for the Delegates of Communication and lay people involved in communication in our Salesian presences from all Provinces. A total of 508 people are participating in this project, which takes place from August to December 2022.
The team also examined two important social communication projects in which the Sector was very much involved - the Salesian youth film festival "Don Bosco Global Youth Film Festival" and the Rector Major's Strenna for 2022. The opinions gathered on the topic were positive, and suggestions and proposals for future editions were also offered.
Fr. Ambrose Pereira briefly presented the “Global Compact on Education” which was a document released by Pope Francis on 12 September 2019. It was a relevant document for us as it was an invitation to dialogue on how we are shaping the future of our planet and the need to engage with the youth and society towards the positive transformation of our world. The document will be studied by the Delegates of Communication in order to establish a dialogue between communication and the proposals of the Global Compact on Education and actions that may result from this dialogue.
During the meeting, the schedule and venues of the joint meetings between the Delegates of Communication and Formation in the various regions from August to November 2022 were presented. The preparations underway for the World Communication Sector Consultation that will be held in Lisbon, Portugal from 29th October to 1st November this year was also announced.
Within the process of deepening and practising a planning mentality, and in the light of the third priority of programmatic proposal of the Rector Major for the six-year period (“The Salesian Sacrament of Presence”), it was announced that from May 2022 to December 2023, the General Councillor will accompany and support each Delegate to elaborate and update the Planning of Communication of each Province.
In his address, Fr. Gildasio appreciated the dedicated service of all the regional communication coordinators. He invited the Coordinators of the Regions to continue to work in close collaboration with the Provincial-level Youth Ministry Departments and promote the institutional communication in line with the mission of the Salesian Order to educate and evangelize the youth, especially the poorer.
