Spain - Salesians obtain School Safety award

27 June 2016

(ANS - Madrid) - The Salesian School of San Juan Bautista in Madrid was awarded a certificate for their commitment to peaceful coexistence and prevention of school harassment, in recognition of the work done by the educational community to prevent bullying and cyber-bullying. It is the first school to obtain this certificate.

Following hearings carried out last May by experts in school-life and the prevention of bullying and cyber-bullying, the Salesian Institute has obtained the Level A Certificate for School Safety. This means that the work done by the school management with teachers, counsellors and the entire staff, reaches a set of quality standards for intervention and prevention in the area of school-life.

The presentation ceremony will take place at the school on Wednesday 29 June with the participation of Fr Juan Carlos Pérez Godoy, Provincial of the Salesians of Madrid and President of the organization of Catholic Schools in Spain. The organizers of "School Safety" will present the first certificate issued in the country.

"School Safety", the first certificate on the quality of school-life, came about through collaboration between School-Market and "InDubio Consultoría" and is recognized by the Federation of Associations of Criminologists in Spain (FACE), a group of experts on risk prevention. The certificate is a social response to the alarm caused by the cases of bullying and cyberbullying and other problems that seriously affect life at school and the image of school institutions.

Through this certificate a school can show publicly the steps it has taken to prevent risk situations and to cope with in the best way, for the safety of students, their parents, teachers and staff.
