In welcoming this diploma of merit to Fr Kabuge, he emphasized that the recognition must be extended to the entire AFC Province and to the Salesian Family in the Democratic Republic of Congo, which has moved as a single body in the fight against the coronavirus. In fact, since March 2020, the local Salesian Family has been engaged in various initiatives to raise awareness, provide solidarity and assistance aimed at saving lives and helping those who most suffered the consequences of the pandemic.
As an act of recognition for this mission carried out by the Sons of Don Bosco in this difficult period, DIADH and the Ministry of Health honored the Salesian work in these terms: “This diploma of merit is attributed to Fr Albert Kabuge, Legal Representative of the Salesians of Don Bosco in Central Africa AFC-DRC, for his precious contribution to the Democratic Republic of Congo in general and to the Province of Upper Katanga in particular, for his commitment, his dedication to raising awareness and his contribution in the fight against COVID-19. As evidence of this, this prize is awarded to him in recognition of his willingness to serve the Congolese nation.”
In addition to this award, in 2020 Fr Albert Kabuge received two other public awards: an award for youth leadership and for the spread of the missionary spirit, delivered by the organization “Congo Avenir”, on 18 July 2020, and by the “Syndicate of Youth for Work and Democracy” (SYJED, in French), again in September 2020.
“These awards and even more the initiatives carried out together are a reminder for the entire Salesian Family of AFC to thank all the benefactors who have accompanied our actions of assistance to those who have suffered. Now it is up to all of us to continue to raise awareness among the population to live with prudence,” commented Fr Kabuge.
