Tijuana, Mexico – December 2016 – About 150 migrants from Haiti, after an average five-days-long journey, arrive every evening in the Salesian community of “Padre Chava”, where they are welcomed, are given a warm meal and a place where to spend the night, waiting for the immigration office to find them a permanent accommodation. The teams of the Salesians and of the volunteers works unceasingly for them.
Vienna, Austria – December 8th, 2016 - On the feast of Mary Immaculate, Salesian confrèreRaj Antony was ordained a deacon in the church of Don Bosco in Vienna. The ceremony was presided over by Archbishop emeritus Alois Kothgasser SDB, and was concelebrated by Fr. Petrus Obermüller, Provincial of Austria. Praveen Raj Antony was born in Chennai, India, in 1985, he did his first profession in 2005 and in the context of Project Europe was sent by the Rector Major to Austria, where he is completing his studies of Theology.
El Obeid, Sudan – November 26th, 2016 – On November 26th there was the Graduation Ceremony of the students of the 14th three-year course of the “Don Bosco Vocational Training Centre” of El Obeid, which is the second school of the country with the greatest number of students who passed the national exams: 28. Civil, government and religious authorities, local NGOs and friends of Don Bosco were present at the ceremony.
Sevilla, Spain – December 5th, 2016 – The Minister of Interior, Juan Ignacio Zoido, Salesian Past Pupil, on December 5th visited the Salesian House of Triana (Sevilla), to share a moment of dialogue with the students of the Bachelor’s Degree and Vocational Formation, on the occasion of the 38th anniversary of the Spanish Constitution. During his visit he said, “Thanks for opening to me the gates of this house. It is an honour for my Salesian origins to come and speak of the Constitutional context which allowed us to grow as a society”.
