Lubumbashi, DR Congo – July 2024 - At the Cité de Jeunes on Sunday 14 July, Fr Pascual Chávez, Rector Major Emeritus, received the promises of 14 new Salesian Cooperators (8 women and 6 men) during the Eucharistic celebration. Fr Guillermo Basañes, Superior of the Central Africa Province (AFC), the Vice-Provincial Fr Tryphon Kalimira, the Salesian Family, Provincial Delegate, Fr Placide Mukundi and other Salesian priests concelebrated.
Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea – July 2024 – From 11 to 13 July, the second stakeholder conference of the Don Bosco Technological Institute (DBTI) was held at the Emmaus Conference Centre, in Port Moresby. Over the three days several meetings and discussions took place, all focusing on the theme: "Dreaming together of DBTI becoming a university". The invited guests and speakers at the conference were stakeholders from the education, government and industry sectors, members of the clergy and Salesians, Past Pupils and DBTI staff, who discussed the possibility of the school becoming an advanced higher education institution. Fr Gregorio Bicomong, Superior of the PGS Vice-Province, was also present for the occasion, stressing the determination and commitment of the Vice-Province in wanting DBTI to acquire the status of university. The moderator of the event, Fr Dindo Vitug, thanks to his accurate summary of all the work, was able to guide the participants to jointly express their opinions on the future direction of the DBTI as a university and on the practical resolutions that can lead to this step. Finally, among the many distinguished speakers present, the presence of the Bishop of Kerema, Pedro Centeno Baquero, SDB, should be highlighted. In his address, the latter urged the institute to remain faithful to the Salesian charism and to the Don Bosco Preventive System, always taking care of the less fortunate young people.
Gbenyedzi, Togo – July 2024 – As part of the celebrations for the fifth anniversary of the Ecole de Cana, seventeen couples were married at the Mary Help of Christians parish in Gbenyedzi, Lomé district. The Eucharistic celebration was presided over by Fr Jacques Nagalo, the parish priest. The celebration highlighted the beauty of Christian marriage and was also an opportunity to encourage young people to embark on the path of religious marriage. At the end of the Eucharistic celebration, in an atmosphere of celebration, the spouses cut a cake as a sign of fraternal sharing. The Ecole de Cana, which celebrates its first five years, is a family pastoral structure dedicated precisely to the human and spiritual preparation of couples for the sacrament of marriage.
Oświęcim, Poland – 5 July 2024 – Boskie Granie, (Music in the style of Don Bosco) is a summer music festival, which takes place on the evening of all summer Fridays in the St Hyacinth Plaza in Oświęcim. Concert and theatrical meetings give the public very exciting, admirable and reflective experience and everything that arises in the human heart in the encounter with art. Boskie Granie took place for the first time in 2019. "Estivo Palco Musicale" is a space located between the church and the school, but also a proposal involving work and leisure or the sacred and the profane. This year Boskie Granie takes place for the sixth time and includes 8 meetings and concerts. This series of concerts, which began on 5 July, was opened by the Łaska Group comprising former students of the Salesian School in Oświęcim. The project is carried out by the Salesians in Oświęcim and the Past Pupils of the School, and co-financed by the Salesian Society and the City of Oświęcim.
