Peru – 2nd Salesian Missionary Assembly Reflects on the Future of Missionary Work in the Country
Lima, Peru – March 2025 – From March 12 to 14, Salesians serving in the four missionary outposts in Peru gathered at the Provincial House of the Salesians of Peru (PER) for the 2nd Salesian Missionary Assembly. Missionaries from Monte Salvado, Pucallpa, and San Lorenzo attended the event, along with two Salesians working in the Achuar region who reside in the Salesian community of Wasakentsa.
The purpose of this meeting was to share and reflect on the experiences of each Salesian missionary in their respective missions, as well as to analyze and contribute to the documents of the Provincial Project for Missionary Animation (PIAM- Progetto ispettoriale di Animazione Missionaria) and the Provincial Project for Missions (PIM- Progetto ispettoriale per le Missioni). Fr. José Kamza, Provincial Delegate for Missionary Animation, emphasized that one of the delegation’s greatest challenges is to facilitate, coordinate, and support Salesians working in missionary areas so they can give their best efforts. “We are reflecting on the future of missionary work in Peru, seeking guidelines, paths, and projects,” said Fr. Kamza.
Cardinal Pedro Barreto SJ was present during the study and work sessions, guiding a reflection on the reality of missionary work in the Amazon region.
