Spain - The Final Overall Evaluation of the Missions Sector 2020-2025

13 February 2025

Barcelona, Spain - February 2025 - Fr Alfred Maravilla, General Councillor for the Missions, brought together all the members of the Missions Sector team in Martí-Codolar, Barcelona, from 10 to 12 February, for an overall final evaluation after five years of service to keep alive the missionary spirit and commitment throughout the Congregation (C. 138). During this five-year period, the Missions Sector has been committed to promoting a paradigm shift from a missionary animation carried out alone to a collaborative missionary animation, from a top-down animation focused on the General Councillor to a bottom-up animation focused on the Provinces.

Collaborative ministry is based on the principles of subsidiarity, shared responsibility and empowerment, and aims at developing a congregational network of committed collaborators (Regional Coordinators for Missionary Animation, Provincial Delegates for Missionary Animation, Local Delegates for Missionary Animation, and Advisory Teams) in a faithful, creative and collaborative involvement in their Regions, Provinces and Houses.

During this five-year period, it has been revealed that the main strength of this animation paradigm has been the work of coordination, bringing into communication the different actors involved (at the regional, provincial and local levels); making known within and beyond the Congregation the good that is being done in the Missions Sector; initiating or strengthening shared paths not isolated from the provinces. During the evaluation days the members of the team also visited Sarrià, the place of Don Bosco's fifth missionary dream, the Tibidabo Shrine and other religious sites around Barcelona.
