Ireland - Priestly ordination of Salesian Vinh Hien Tran
Pallaskenry, Ireland - January 2025 - On 30 January, the eve of Don Bosco Day, the Salesian Family in Ireland gathered in the Salesian chapel in Pallaskenry to witness the priestly ordination of Salesian Vinh Hien Tran. The ceremony was presided over by Bishop Brendan Leahy, Bishop of Limerick, and was joyfully attended by friends - Irish and Vietnamese - and relatives of the newly ordained priest. In his homily, Bishop Leahy spoke about Salesian charism and invited Fr Vinh to work for the poor and needy just as Don Bosco did. He also reflected on the contribution of the Salesians to the Diocese of Limerick over the past hundred years. Fr Eunan McDonnell, Superior of the IRL Province, also spoke in conclusion on the history of the Salesians in Ireland,. He traced the beginnings of the presence, from the invitation of the then Bishop of Limerick, Bishop Denis Hallinan.
