India - First Village School Library inaugurated at the Don Bosco school in Gedilam
Gedilam, India - January 2025 - The Don Bosco Kalvi Solai charity, through its ‘Butterfly Express’ initiative, has proudly inaugurated the first village school library, opened at the Don Bosco secondary school in Gedilam. The latter is a school that has been welcoming numerous poor and deserving children from the surrounding villages since 1999. The aim of this initiative is to promote a love of reading among rural students by providing them with access to quality books and learning resources. The event was also attended by Fr John Alexander, Vice-Provincial of the Salesian Province of Chennai, along with many other prominent personalities. Thanks to ‘Butterfly Express’, a well-equipped library with 4,000 books has been set up and furnished with tables, chairs and interior fittings to create an enriching reading space for the students. ‘Butterfly Express’ also plans to open at least two such school libraries each year, ensuring that as many rural students as possible have access to knowledge and opportunities.
