Japan - Meeting of Collaborators with positions of responsibility for Salesian works in the Saint Francis Xavier Province
Tokyo, Japan – January 2025 – A meeting of Collaborators, (Mission Partners) took place on 11 and 12 January, which brought together 35 collaborators from different Salesian institutions in the Salesian Saint Francis Xavier Province, Japan (GIA), who play a role of responsibility in their respective workplaces. The event began with an address by Fr Francesco Atsushi Hamasaki, GIA Provincial, during which he said that "This year is not only the Jubilee Year, but also an important milestone, since it marks the 150th anniversary of the first sending of Salesian missionaries. It was during this period, 100 years ago, that nine missionaries, including Fr Cimatti, were chosen as the first missionaries in Japan. As we reflect on our history, let us move forward together with hope for the next 100 years.” Presentations were then made by representatives of three institutions. They spoke of the blessings of working in an environment where the teachings of Don Bosco come to life through daily interaction with students and young people. At the same time, they shared the struggles to overcome the real challenges, striving to realise the ideals of Don Bosco. After the presentations, the participants divided into groups to share their thoughts and ideas on the future direction of their institutions. The event ended with the Holy Eucharist, during which the participants expressed their gratitude and promised to meet again.
