Canada – Toronto: 100th Anniversary of Michaelite St. Teresa Parish
Toronto, Canada – October 2024 – On 6 October, the parish of Saint Teresa in Toronto, managed by the Congregation of Saint Michael the Archangel (CSMA), the 21st group of the Salesian Family, celebrated its 100th anniversary. The celebrations were presided over by Archbishop Francis Leo, Archbishop of Toronto. The occasion was made even more festive because only a few hours earlier Pope Francis had announced the consistory for the creation of 21 new cardinals, including Archbishop Leo himself. The Michaelites are a religious Congregation founded by Salesian Blessed Bronisław Markiewicz (1842-1912). Absorbing the Salesian spirituality of Don Bosco, Markiewicz chose "Temperance and work" as his motto and established moral and material assistance to poor young people as one of the main apostolates. Currently, between the Province of Ontario and the Archdiocese of Detroit there are eleven Michaelites and Bishop Józef Andrzej Dąbrowski, CSMA, is Bishop of Charlottetown, in the Canadian province of Prince Edward Island.
