Papua New Guinea – Renewing apostolic zeal: a seminar for Salesian Brothers in the practical training phase

24 September 2024

Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea – September 2024 – A seminar for Salesian brother practical trainees began on 19 September, organised by the Commission for Formation in the Papua New Guinea and Solomon Islands (PGS) Vice-Province. The three-day seminar was aimed at young Salesian Brothers in initial formation, to renew their apostolic zeal in their commitment as practical trainees. The first part of the seminar focused on the Preventive System and Salesian Accompaniment. After receiving input from the Provincial Delegate for Formation, each participant reflected and shared their personal experiences. The different origins – Papua New Guinea, Timor-Leste, Congo and Madagascar – facilitated the collection of different experiences, enriching the intercultural dynamics of the young men and the experience of unity in diversity. Other topics covered were evangelisation through social networks, the intersection between social media and religious discipline and the vow of poverty in daily life. Participants gained new insights and felt encouraged to return to their home communities with renewed enthusiasm and hope. The seminar was led by Fr Pedro Sachitula, PGS Vice-Provincial; Fr Srimal Gajasinhage, PGS Economer; Fr Moïse Paluku, Delegate for Youth Ministry, and Fr Ambrose Pereira, Delegate for Social Communication.
