Cartago, Costa Rica – March 2024 - The "First Lego League" was held on 2 March, the largest robotics festival in Costa Rica, where the "Clubhouse Sales Cartago" team won the first place nationwide in the "Challenge" category, the most difficult. "Clubhouse Sales Cartago" is the flagship social project of the Salesian St Dominic Savio Centre, which is part of an international learning network "The clubhouse Network". The Salesians have joined this initiative as part of the preventive system, where innovative teachings and practice go hand in hand with technology. In coordination with schools and university institutes in the province, the Salesian Center in Cartago supports more than 300 low-income children and young people so that they can have free access to STEAM tools and opportunities for their professional and social development. The "Clubhouse Sales Cartago" team comprises students from schools in the province, who prepared months earlier with their innovative project consisting of recovering Costa Rican culture, lost in time, using tools such as technology and art, creating a prototype of a rotating platform with typical dances, and a QR code that leads to a page that contains cultural information and videos. The judges decided on the winners, among 34 participating teams, taking into account different aspects such as STEAM skills and Core Values (core values of the "First Lego League"); teamwork, inclusion, impact, fun, discovery and innovation.
