Chofu, Japan – October 2023 – The St Francis Xavier Province of Japan (GIA) organized Salesian Family Day on 7 October to commemorate World Mission Day and to remember the foundation of the Salesian presence in Japan, which took place thanks to the commitment of Venerable Vincenzo Cimatti, whose entry into Heaven is celebrated on 6 October. The meeting, which brought together several members of the Salesian Family in Japan, took place at the parish hall in Chofu, with the theme: "The care of creation, our mission". The event was also attended by Fr Jacob Hideaki Hamaguchi, Superior of the Salesian Province of Japan, Fr Michael Lap, who was entrusted with the conference on the explanation of the chosen theme, and Fr Giovanni Marsiglio, Procurator of the Cause of Canonisation of Msgr Cimatti, who shared the missionary vision of the Venerable with those present . The event ended with an address by Fr Joseph Nguyen Thinh Phuoc, Regional Councillor for East Asia-Oceania, who highlighted the richness and importance of the Salesian Family in the world.
