The registration process has been successfully completed and the event organisers can now express their gratitude for the response received from the global Salesian community, which shows the breadth and depth of devotion to Mary Help of Christians throughout the Salesian world.
Participants come from an impressive variety of countries: Angola, Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Cameroon, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Croatia, Democratic Republic of the Congo, El Salvador, Ecuador, France, Guatemala, Honduras, India, Indonesia, Italy, Kenya, Kuwait, Mexico, Mozambique, Papua New Guinea, Pakistan, Peru, Philippines, Poland, Senegal, Slovakia, Spain, South Africa, Tanzania, East Timor, Tunisia, United States of America, Uruguay, Venezuela, Zambia and – of course – Portugal. A long list of 40 Nations from five continents, to underline the universality of devotion to Mary Help of Christians.
In addition to the participants, 132 support teams were registered, including 207 religious, 78 of whom are priests. These numbers reinforce the spiritual and community character of the congress.
The congress sessions will take place in different languages, with simultaneous translation into Portuguese, Spanish, English, French and Italian. Spanish will be the most spoken language by participants, with almost half of the members, followed by Portuguese with over 400 participants, and Italian, with about 200 people.
The 9th Congress of Mary Help of Christians Programme also includes guided tours of the sacred places around the Marian sanctuary and involvement in the Via Crucis. These will be organised by language groups in Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, English and French.
The International Congress of Mary Help of Christians is a meeting promoted by the Association of Mary Help of Christians (ADMA) – the fourth group of the Salesian Family – which aims to make known, deepen and spread devotion to Mary Help of Christians. Aimed at all the groups of the Salesian Family, this congress is usually held every four years and is a very important moment for all its members, as an opportunity for devotion and communion among all, gathered beneath the mantle of Don Bosco-s Madonna.
