(ANS - Río Negro) - Following a project presented by the National Deputy Maria Emilia Soria, the old school building of San Miguel was declared a National Heritage on 6 March. The school will celebrate this recognition by the National Congress in an event organized by the Blessed Ceferino Namuncurá Institute.
(ANS - Santiago) - The Salesian Congregation in Chile celebrates 130 years of presence precisely today, 6 March. On this very day in 1887, three Salesian priests Pietro Paolo Rabagliati, Spirito Scavini and Raimondo Daniele, accompanied by Brother Peter Moglia and two clerics Carlo Gerolamo Amerio and Giovanni Battista Burzio, entered Chile. They were sent from Argentina by Fr Luigi Costamagna to start the first Salesian work in Concepcion.
(ANS - Rome) - The Salesian Mission Day is an event that is celebrated all round the world, although on different dates. It offers an opportunity to reflect on the missionary dimension of the Salesian charism. Next Sunday, 26 February it will be celebrated in Italy, with the traditional name "DOMISAL" (Salesian Mission Sunday). The guiding theme will be "... and they stayed with us," recalling the action of the Salesian missionaries among the indigenous peoples of Latin America.
(ANS - Naples) – There was great enthusiasm in Naples on Friday 17 February for the visit of the Rector Major, Fr Ángel Fernández Artime. His presence made even more special the day of the opening of the "Peace Museum - MAMT", in Piazza Municipio, entitled "Don Bosco: The young apostles of the young." It is a unique space devoted entirely to the Saint of Youth and Salesians in the world.
(ANS – New Delhi) – The Salesian Provincial Council of South Asia (SPCSA) is a body, led by Father Maria Arokiam Kanaga, Regional Councillor, which brings together 11 Provinces as one body for common orientations and initiatives in the following areas: Education, Youth Animation, Mission, Communication, and Formation. In the context of a periodic evaluation of the SPCSA, it was thought appropriate to also do a Visioning exercise for Salesians of Don Bosco, India, during a meeting in New Delhi, on 8-9 February.
(ANS – Rome) – On February 17th, in Naples, the emotional journey of the “Museo della Pace – MAMT” (Museum of Peace) dedicated to the Father and Teacher of the Youth will open its gates. The journey is entitled: “Don Bosco, the Power of Love”. The Rector Major, Fr. Ángel Fernández Artime, will also take part in this event.
(ANS - Brussels) - Ahead of the International Day against the Use of Child Soldiers (12 February) and taking advantage of the valuable documentary produced by Misiones Salesianas entitled Alto el Fuego (Ceasefire) on the work being done by Salesians for the personal rehabilitation and social reintegration of child soldiers, Don Bosco International organized a series of events in Brussels to promote the Salesian work of Ciudad Don Bosco in Medellin.
(ANS – New Delhi) – Don Bosco Youth Film Festival of India (DBYFFI) is an annual Short Film Festival organized simultaneously in over 100 cities of 19 States in India as a tribute to Don Bosco, the patron and friend of youth. This Festival, which is non-commercial and competitive, has showcased on 28-29 January twenty-four short-movies that celebrate the spirit of youth and issues concerning nation-building. It creates platforms for filmmakers to reach the widest possible audience for their work.
(ANS - Rome) - Yesterday, 2 February. the documentary "Alto el fuego" (Ceasefire) was shown in Rome to a large audience of journalists. The film was made by "Misiones Salesianas" in Madrid in collaboration with the Salesian House "Ciudad Don Bosco" in Medellin, Colombia. After the screening of the documentary, many questions were put to the two former child soldiers present, Manuel and Catalina (fictitious names). "Catalina, did you decide to join FARC? Why did you leave it?" - "Yes. I decided to join and I decided to leave … "
(ANS – Brussels) – On the occasion of the Feast of Don Bosco, Don Bosco International has organized for the first time, an evening reception in partnership with the Commission of the Bishops' Conferences of the European Community (COMECE) to celebrate Don Bosco. This new initiative counted on the presence of Fr. Fabio Attard, President of DBI.
