In 2006, when the Rector Major called for the congregation to 'start again from Don Bosco' to reawaken the heart of every Salesian, Ian Murdoch SDB, an Australian Salesian priest, educator and historian, responded as a Salesian and a significant historian, by delving anew into the available material on the founder. His Provincial therefore felt he was ideally suited to preach all of the Spiritual Retreats across the Australia-Pacific Province in 2008. This book contains the conferences he gave at those retreats.
'Loving kindness' is one of the three founding principles of Don Bosco's approach to accompanying and educating the young. In times when harsh and uncompromising discipline was the norm, his philosophy was radical.
Amy had been saving her pocket money to buy a book. Not just any book; it would be her book. She had seen the book in the bookshop window weeks ago among fairy stories, adventures and fables. On the cover in beautiful letters were the words: The Story of Jesus. Good News in the Family is a beautifully illustrated hard-back book chronicling the life of Jesus, and how one family shared the story together.
Education in India is in crisis. With abysmally low rates of literacy (more than 1/4th of all Indians do not have basic literacy skills) and crass commercialization of education, this book written by Salesian scholars composed of 13 articles, is a timely warning of what is to come and wide arching solutions to the different problems that arise.
