Hatyai, Thailand – June 2024 – Over 50 students from the Salesian SME programme, together with teachers and parents, offered to plant mangrove trees and release small crabs at the Mangrove Forest Conservation Club in the Singhanakhon district. The aim was to have a positive impact on the environment and to contribute, through tree planting, to reducing soil degradation, minimising erosion and improving air quality in the region. Reforestation is a new beginning to restore the balance of nature. Mangroves in particular are of great importance to the ecology, environment, society and economy of many countries. Involving the young students of Salesian schools in the activities of mangrove planting and the liberation of small crabs is a formative moment seeking to make them aware of their duty to take care of the earth and the environment.
Yangon, Myanmar – June 2024 – A course on the basics of Social Communication was held from 3 to 22 June, organised by the Executive Committee of MIRS (Myanmar Institute of Religious Studies) and held by the Delegate for Social Communication of the Myanmar Salesian Vice-Province, Fr Andrea Maung Maung. The event, which took place in Yangon, at the headquarters of the Conference of Catholic Religious of Myanmar, was attended by 22 Sisters and postulants from different Congregations. The course focused on different aspects of communication, such as news writing, public speaking skills, digital photography and basic video editing. The culminating moment of the course was the sharing of the professional stories of the participants in front of the class, to exercise the ability to speak in public. All sharing was recorded by phone, and then uploaded to social networks.
Lubumbashi, DR Congo – June 2024 - A Feast of Gratitude for the Provincial of Central Africa (AFC), Fr Guillermo Basañes. was held on Saturday 22 June at Boys Town Lubumbashi. 228 Salesians and 22 novices belonging to and residing in the southern part of the country participated in this traditional annual meeting that was marked by the Eucharistic celebration, the reading of the messages addressed to the Provincial, a projection of the summary of the Rector Major's visit to the country and the sharing of a fraternal meal. The Mass was presided over by Fr Basañes, who chose gratitude and prayer in time of war as his intentions for the day, to highlight the communion of heart and spirit of the entire Salesian Province in the face of the cruelty and atrocities caused by the painful situation of war that the population of the North East of the country is experiencing.
Dosquebradas, Colombia – June 2024 - From 19 to 22 June 580 young people from the Salesian Youth Movement (SYM) from the two Salesian Provinces of Colombia, Medellín and Bogotá and from the three FMAs, gathered at San Juan Bosco School in Dosquebradas – Risaralda, to experience Campo Bosco 2024. The meeting is the culmination of the faith formation itineraries, which are presented in the SYM-COM Charter of Identity; and it represents the most important founding meeting of the pillars of Salesian Youth Spirituality for the Province of St Luis Bertrando. Campo Bosco was animated by the Animation team and the Provincial Council of SYM-COM, the Mission Animation Delegation, Vocation Ministry and the Salesian Blessed Philip Rinaldi Postnovitiate community, with the logistical support of the Educative and Pastoral Community of the school hosting the event. The central theme of Campo Bosco 2024 was Don Bosco's Childhood Dream, which this year celebrates its bicentennial. The formative moment experienced by the participants focused on the call, discussion and mission of Don Bosco to help the young people of the world build their life project, with dedication and love.
Hyderabad, India – June 2024 – Sunday 23 June, the Past Pupils of the St Joseph Province in Hyderabad gathered at the Provincial House to commemorate the day of the founding of the Past Pupils, or the day when Carlo Gastini and a group of Valdocco's first former pupils went to visit Don Bosco to congratulate him on the day he celebrated his name day. The meeting began with the Eucharist presided over by Fr Michael Kishore, Provincial Delegate for the Salesian Family, who took the opportunity to highlight the importance of the Dream at nine years of age, on the occasion of its 200th anniversary. Subsequently, Mr. Illuri Parsad presented the assembly with the detailed annual report of the Federation's activities at the provincial level and highlighted the start-up of the new units in Kurnool, Narsipatnam and Ongole. Those present were also informed of the upcoming Extraordinary General World Assembly of Past Pupils which will be held in Valdocco from 2 to 6 October 2024. The entire meeting was therefore a significant moment to remember with gratitude the gifts that each one has inherited in their lives from Don Bosco.
Tagaytay, Philippines – June 2024 - Salesians in the North Philippines Province (FIN) gathered at Don Bosco Batulao from 16 to 20 June for the 2024 Provincial Chapter. Chapter members explored and deliberated mainly on the contribution and participation of the FIN Province to GC29 to be held in Turin in 2025 on the theme "Passionate about Jesus Christ, dedicated to young people", and on its three core areas and on the challenges of the Province. The Provincial Chapter was chaired by Fr Gerardo Martin, Provincial and Fr Alexander Garces, Moderator, and was attended by forty-eight Salesians and an observer, Fr Ramon Borja, from the Salesian community of Kuching, Malaysia. In addition to dealing with these central issues, the Chapter also addressed some issues of great importance: the health program for confreres in the Province, reshaping communities, houses and settings, the displacement of the Academic Year. The Eucharistic celebrations with homilies and Good Nights have enriched the chapter celebration. The Assembly elected Fr Alexander Garces as delegate to the GC29 and Salesian Brother Carmelo Martinez, as substitute.
