Santa Ana, El Salvador – October 2024 – On Friday 18 October, in the church of the Holy Family in the San José college in Santa Ana, Salesian Salvador Sánchez made his perpetual profession before Fr Julio Navarro, Superior of the Salesian Province of Central America (CAM). The celebration was concelebrated by 25 Salesian priests, in the presence of various novices, family, friends and the educational community of the San José college.
Hyderabad, India – October 2024 – The Salesian Province of Hyderabad, India, in collaboration with Bosco Soft Technologies Pvt. Ltd, hosted a three-day workshop from 18 to 20 October entitled: "Artificial Intelligence in the Apostolic Ministry: improving leadership, management and administration". The event, held at the Provincial House in Hyderabad, attracted more than 40 participants, including Salesians, nuns, diocesan priests and lay people. The workshop represented a hands-on learning experience which provided the presenters with practical notions on how to apply AI. Under the guidance of Fr Yeruva Joji, Coordinator of the workshop, and Fr Muthyala Sudhakar, the sessions were designed to ensure the immediate applicability of the teachings. During the days, different topics were addressed such as digital platforms, the use of Google Workspace, social media and ethical and security considerations in Artificial Intelligence. The workshop provided participants with a valuable platform to embrace modern technologies.
São Paulo, Brazil – October 2024 – On 19 October, the Santa Teresinha Institute in São Paulo hosted the new edition of the largest Salesian Youth Festival in the country, "FEST 2024", organised annually jointly by the Salesians and the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians. More than 4,000 young people from São Paulo, Paraná, Santa Catarina, Rio Grande do Sul and Mato Grosso do Sul participated in this meeting full of joy, holiness and much socialisation. The youngsters were welcomed by the Provincial of San Paolo, Brazil (BSP), Fr Alexandre Luis De Oliveira, who presided over the Eucharistic Celebration. Also present for the occasion was Sister Alaíde Deretti, Superior of the FMA Province of Our Lady of Aparecida. The young people were involved in numerous activities, including the exhibition of the Don Bosco samba school in Itaquera, which also presented the theme of Carnival 2025: "The mystical circle of illusions". During the day, those present took part in artistic exhibitions, multisport disciplines, time together and had access to the Vocation Tent where they were able to talk and clarify their doubts about the Christian vocation path. All the activities were aimed at strengthening the bonds between young people and offered an atmosphere of learning and fun. In addition, the event offered a special moment of spirituality with Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, in a further opportunity for reflection and spiritual connection.
Cagliari, Italy – October 2024 – The Salesian Our Lady of Bonaria Community in Cagliari experienced, on the evening of 11 October, a beautiful and intimate Eucharistic Celebration during which the Archbishop of Cagliari, Archbishop Giuseppe Baturi, dedicated the altar of the new community Chapel. The Archbishop first thanked the Salesians for inviting him to spend the liturgical moment during which an altar and the entire Chapel are dedicated to God together. "We are Christ, people who carry Christ in their transfigured humanity, but not because we are angels" Archbishop Baturi said, " Because we are for Him, living for Him, who is ultimately the true definition of worship: living for Jesus Christ, in the Father".
Fusagasugá, Colombia – October 2024 - From 16 to 18 October, the Second Provincial Economic Management Meeting 2024 was held at the Salesianum institute in Fusagasugá, an event that brought together those responsible for the economic and administrative management of the Salesian presences in the St Peter Claver Province of Bogotà, Colombia (COB). The objective was to evaluate, design and plan economic actions, aligning them with the Salesian charism and mission. Led by Fr Rafael Andrés Lasso Castelblanco, SDB, Provincial Economer, together with the Provincial Economer team, the meeting focused on the "Parable of Talents", highlighting the importance of managing not only financial resources, but also one's own talents and those of others. During the conference, strategic planning for the next six years was initiated in an effort to optimise resources and multiply the impact of the works. The event was an opportunity to strengthen provincial communion, reflect on the work carried out during the year and plan actions for the following year, as well as a meeting for learning and growth that highlighted the importance of good administration to continue the Salesian work throughout the Province.
Jerusalem – October 2024 - Saturday 19 October, the Studium Theologicum Salesianum (STS) in Jerusalem held its annual Academic Day. The event also celebrated the twentieth anniversary of the Pontifical University in Jerusalem at Ratisbonne Monastery. The Jerusalem campus of the Faculty of Theology of the Pontifical Salesian University (UPS) was established by decree of the Congregation for Catholic Education on 2 February 2011. The study centre is the legacy of the Studium Theologicum Salesianum (STS), initially founded in Bethlehem (1929), then transferred to Tantur (1949), then to Cremisan (1957) and finally transferred to the Ratisbonne Monastery in Jerusalem (2004). This year's Lectio Magistralis, entitled "The origin of the psalms in public worship and private meditation - a modern perspective", was held by Prof. Alessandro Coniglio, OFM, professor of Biblical Hebrew and Old Testament exegesis at the Studium Biblicum Franciscanum in Jerusalem. The event brought together about 70 people, including students, professors and friends of the campus.
