Madrid, Spain – November 2024 – A new chapter in the joint history of the Valdocco Communities in Spain was written on 9 November. The Provincial House in Madrid hosted the second formation meeting of these groups of young people and adults, thus strengthening a project that aims to promote Christian life and social commitment in a community environment with a Salesian spirit. The meeting expresses the journey of communion undertaken in recent years to consolidate a project that protects something that already existed in some Salesian houses in Spain and that has emerged strongly in many others. With the patronage of the Salesian National Centre for Youth Ministry, a common project was developed and a first meeting was held in 2021. In this second meeting, a complete program was offered that ranged from theological reflections to the exchange of practical experiences. In total there were about thirty participants from the two Salesian Provinces of Spain:  St James the Greater and Mary Help of Christians. The director of the Salesian National Centre for Youth Ministry, Fr José Miguel Núñez, had the task of introducing the participants to the theological and pastoral principles of the Valdocco Community project. His presentation served to deepen the foundations that support these communities of followers of Jesus and to clarify their mission within the Church. Then participants divided into four working groups reflected on the challenges of these communities and shared their experiences. The delegate for Youth Ministry in SSM Province, Fr Xabier Camino, concluded the meeting, offering a summary of the main topics discussed and outlining some future prospects for the Valdocco Communities.

Messina, Italy – November 2024 - The San Tommaso Theological Institute opened the academic year with a presentation entitled "Health and equity in access to care", held by Maurizio L. Lanza, Director General of the IRCCS "Centro Neurolesi Bonino Pulejo". The Speaker explored the complexity of the right to health, defined by WHO as complete physical, mental and social well-being, and highlighted the difference between equity and equality in health. He stressed that access to care depends on financial resources and their distribution. Inequalities in access to care are more acute in developing countries, but also in developed countries, where health policies often favour the private sector at the expense of the public, creating barriers for the most vulnerable. The event, moderated by the director of the academic centre Fr Gianni Russo, was attended by civil, military and religious authorities. The ceremony was enriched by an evocative musical performance that underlined the message of a health that protects and does not abandon, coordinated by Fr Orazio Moschetti and cared for by the students. Archbishop Giovanni Accolla stressed the importance of placing the person at the centre of prevention, diagnosis and treatment, while the Provincial of the Salesians in Sicily, Fr Giovanni D’Andrea, stressed the importance of not neglecting the dignity of every patient. At the end of the ceremony, a scholarship was given to student Danilo Finocchiaro.
