(ANS - Madrid) - Summer camps and tours are among the many activities planned for approximately 18,000 children who take part in the Salesian summer activities organized by 2,500 leaders and 350 Salesians. When school finishes thousands of young people enjoy a well-deserved holiday and the Salesians, particularly through the youth centres, offer educational and recreational activities that respond to one of their specific pedagogical objectives - the educational use of leisure time.
(ANS - Temuco) - The Mapuche, or Araucani as the Spanish called them, are an ethnic group of Native Americans who live mainly in the south of Chile and Argentina. After centuries of peace, a problem has arisen over territorial boundaries and in recent years it has turned violent. "The conflict is mainly territorial. There is no demarcation of the territories occupied by the communities, and no legal title to those lands, as defined by national legislation." Meanwhile, the Chilean government is organizing for the first time a committee to address the conflict in the Mapuche area, as Bishop Héctor Eduardo Vargas Bastidas, SDB, of Temuco has confirmed to the local press.
(ANS - Cochabamba) – According to the Reference Framework of Salesian Youth Ministry, "Group experience is one of the most important pedagogical insights in Salesian Youth Ministry. Don Bosco saw the importance of the group as an educational presence capable of multiplying formative influence.” And it goes on: "To opt for the group means constantly training educators and leaders." To this end, about 170 young people from the Salesian houses in Bolivia are participating in the National School of Leaders, with the motto: "The call".
