A photograph from 1929, the year of the beatification of Don Bosco. The photo shows a sketch of a huge painting and appears as a single image: Don Bosco, Mary and Jesus with the Angel. This painting is located at the top of the Dome of the Basilica of Mary Help of Christians in Turin. It shows Don Bosco with Mary Help of Christians, taking her hand and receiving from her roses which he then distributes. Historians do not know the date when it was painted on the dome nor the precise meaning of this painting, but the image remains attractive, with Don Bosco’s hand resting on Our Lady, the eyes with which she looks at the saint, and the serene face of Don Bosco as he receives and distributes the roses.

Rome, Italy - May 2020 - On 14 May 1887, Don Bosco attended the consecration of the temple dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. On 16 May 1887, he celebrated his only Mass at the altar dedicated to Mary Help of Christians. "More than 15 times he was seen fighting to finish the Holy Mass," report the Biographical Memoirs. To assist him was Fr Carlo Viglietti, his secretary. "Don Bosco's crying greatly impressed those present and many began to cry." The painting is a work of art by Giuseppe Rollini (1887) and the altar was donated by Prince Torlonia.

THE MESSAGE OF THE RECTOR MAJOR, Cardinal Ángel Fernández Artime

I cordially greet all Don Bosco’s friends who come here with interest. Today, I greet you for the last time from this page. As of August 16, the day on which we commemorate Don Bosco’s birth (August 16, 1815), my service as Rector Major of the Salesians of Don Bosco ends. There’s always a reason to give thanks, always. Thank you! Thank you—to God, above all, to the Congregation and Salesian Family, to so many dear people, and to so many friends of Don Bosco’s charism, many of them benefactors.
