United States – Savio Club Brings the Spirit of Camp Savio to Warren High School

17 March 2025

(ANS – Los Angeles) – Warren High School, a public school, witnessed a rise of enthusiasm and inspiration this week as JC Montenegro, a leader from Camp Savio, visited to speak about the transformative summer camp experience. The invitation came from a group of students who recently founded the Savio Club, a student-led initiative aimed at expanding the reach of the camp’s mission and values within their school.

With a clear goal of inviting as many students as possible to be part of Camp Savio’s summer experience, club members passionately shared their personal stories and reflections on how the camp has shaped their lives. The vice president of the club, Paulina, emphasized that while Camp Savio is Catholic, it welcomes participants from all backgrounds, fostering an environment of mutual respect and unity.

"In our summer camp, we have had young people from various religious backgrounds," shared JC Montenegro. "It has been a beautiful experience to see what unites us instead of what makes us different."

A Place for Growth, Friendship, and Fun

Several club members spoke about the unique sense of belonging and personal development they found at Camp Savio, which takes place in Bellflower, California, USA:

–         Julia described the camp as a place where “friends are the family you choose.”

–         Paulina called it her “safe space, where your inner child can shine through.”

–         Devin shared how "Savio has helped me with my self-growth while making it fun!"

–         Kaitlyn highlighted the strong bonds formed at camp, stating, "Your grade will become your family."

Beyond friendship, the students also discussed how the camp encourages stepping away from screens and living in the present. Fernanda reminded her peers that "time goes by so quickly, so it’s best to make the most of it.” She emphasized how the camp experience limits phone use, encouraging meaningful interactions and outdoor activities.

Supporting Mental Health and Well-Being

In addition to building friendships and having fun, students spoke about how Camp Savio has played a crucial role in supporting their mental health. The young speakers highlighted how the camp provides a positive, uplifting environment that helps participants develop coping skills and resilience.

–         Joselyn encouraged her peers: "Make the most out of Savio, don’t let anything discourage you."

–         Sabrina reflected on the impact of the experience, saying, "I made the most of my summer at Camp Savio, and I hope you will too."

A Call to Join the Experience

The Savio Club at Warren High School is already making an impact, proving that young people are eager to create spaces of positivity, inclusivity, and personal growth. Their efforts to spread the word about Camp Savio reflect a growing movement among youth to seek meaningful experiences beyond academic ones that cultivate community, faith, and personal development.

For students looking for a summer filled with friendship, adventure, and self-discovery, Camp Savio promises to be an unforgettable experience. As the club continues its mission, one thing is clear: the spirit of Savio is not just confined to a summer camp, it’s a mindset, a family, and a way of life.
