Italy – “Parenting School: Perspectives of Hope” - At Villa Sora Salesian Institute, Cardinal A.F. Artime and Dr. Ruffini Reflect on the Rights of Adolescents

17 March 2025

(ANS – Frascati) – In the Year of the Jubilee of Hope, the Salesian Institute Villa Sora in Frascati, near Rome, is hosting a series of meetings called a “Parenting School.” The next one is on Friday, March 21st, and it’ll be led by Dr. Paolo Ruffini, who’s the Prefect of the Vatican Dicastery for Social Communication. Cardinal Ángel Fernández Artime, who’s the Rector Major Emeritus and Pro-Prefect of the Dicastery for Institutes of Consecrated Life and Societies of Apostolic Life, will also be there.

Organized by the Salesian Cooperators of Villa Sora with the patronage of the Municipality of Frascati, the event aims to spark reflection on adolescents and their rights, which are often violated in various parts of the world.

Addressing Global and Everyday Challenges

The discussion will cover multiple critical issues, including:

  • Children in armed conflicts, with an estimated 300,000 minors involved in military groups and forces.
  • Child labor and exploitation, which still affects 160 million young people worldwide.
  • Everyday rights violations, often unnoticed, such as the lack of access to leisure time and the impact of climate change on younger generations.

Cardinal Artime, having traveled to over 120 countries during his ten years as Rector Major of the Salesians, has witnessed firsthand the challenges young people face in diverse contexts. His experience will provide a broad and insightful perspective on the topic.

A Community Initiative for Families

Giuseppe Russotti, Coordinator of the Salesian Cooperators at Villa Sora, emphasized the importance of the initiative:

"As Salesian Cooperators, we are delighted to support families through our Parenting School, which continues this year as well. This valuable opportunity allows us to open our doors not only to the parents of our students but also to the entire community of Frascati. Our goal is to offer a meaningful service to the local area, promoting the protection of the most vulnerable young people."

The March 21 event is part of a broader cycle of meetings aimed at addressing key public issues in collaboration with the local community. The goal is to support families and navigate the challenges of modern society.

Previous sessions have covered:

  • Artificial Intelligence (first meeting)
  • Psychological violence and narcissistic abuse (second meeting)

This third session will focus on children’s rights, forms of abuse, and strategies for prevention and intervention, helping families and young people navigate today’s complex reality.
