Italy – Meeting of Parish Priests and Oratory Leaders of the Lombardo-Emiliana Salesian Province
Rimini, Italy – February 2025 – From February 11 to 13, the Parish Priests and Oratory Leaders of the Lombardo-Emiliana Salesian Province (ILE) gathered at the "Maria Ausiliatrice" house in Rimini for their annual formative event. The meeting began with a presentation on the current situation of parishes in Italy by Mons. Erio Castellucci, Archbishop Abbot of Modena-Nonantola, Bishop of Carpi, and Vice President of the Italian Episcopal Conference, followed by a moment of dialogue. Later, Fr. Erino Leoni, ILE Provincial Vicar, and Fr. Edoardo Gnocchini, Provincial Delegate for Youth Ministry, led a reflection based on insights from the final document of the Synod and the present state of the Church in Italy. On the second day, the Oratory Leaders reflected on the relationship between Associations and the Oratory, exchanging ideas and best practices. Meanwhile, the Parish Priests studied and discussed the summary document of the National Seminar "The Parish of the Without...", held in Rome in 2023. The document highlighted shared pastoral sensitivities already present in Salesian-led parishes, emphasizing the role of Educational-Pastoral Communities, the oratory, and the Salesian approach to Youth Ministry through the "oratorian criterion." It also provided a framework for theological and ecclesial reflection on Salesian-led parishes. In the afternoon, participants engaged in a pilgrimage experience following in the footsteps of the Servant of God, Fr. Oreste Benzi, a native of Rimini. On the final day, some Salesians shared their experiences with formation groups and the accompaniment of educators. This was followed by an address from Fr. Roberto Dal Molin, ILE Provincial Superior, along with his Vice Provincial and the Youth Ministry Delegate, on the province’s current direction, concluding with discussions and proposals from participants.
