Guwahati, India - February 2022 – A new Bible, this in the Assamese language, Catholic edition, was presented on February 14 at the “Don Bosco Institute” in Guwahati. The event was chaired by the Archbishop of Guwahati, Msgr. John Moolachira, in the presence of the Archbishop Emeritus, Msgr. Thomas Menamparampil, SDB, of Fr John Parankimalil, Director of the DBI and of "Don Bosco Communications", various other prominent figures, students of the Institute and a number of guests. This new Bible in Assamese is the fruit of a long ecumenical effort coordinated by Fr Lukose Cheruvalel, SDB, who in his speech thanked all those who contributed to the success of the project, in particular the "Don Bosco Communications" center in Guwahati. Archbishop Moolachira, for his part, thanked the "Bible Society of India" for having compiled the Assamese Bible to very high professional standards. Assamese, a highly developed language with a rich literature, has around 30 million speakers in the state of Assam, of which a small part is Christian. A minute's silence was observed during the text presentation ceremony to remember four members of the translation team who passed away before completing the project.
