Sumba, Indonesia – November 2024 – An educational conference was held at the Don Bosco Vocational School in Sumba on 6 November: "Vocational education in the south-west of Sumba, towards golden Indonesia 2045". The conference is part of the Salesian school's project to increase the vocational training of young people in Sumba and improve their chances of finding a job. The project is funded by the German Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and the German Salesian NGO "Don Bosco Mondo". Work began as early as mid-2021, with the construction of the school building and the purchase of necessary furniture and equipment. At the same time, staff development was promoted to achieve the objectives set by the School. This conference sought to celebrate what has been achieved so far and, at the same time, establish a roadmap for the next ten years. The goal remains to help poor and marginalised young people, with an impact on improving collective well-being, in view of 2045 when the hundred years of Indonesian Independence will be celebrated.
Formosa, Argentina – November 2024 - The Salesian community in Formosa celebrated the reopening of the Salesian "Father Carmelo Sciullo" Museum, a renewed space dedicated to preserving the rich history of the Salesian presence in the city. This museum is a symbol of the joint work between the Salesian missionaries and the local community. It reopens its doors as a testimony to the commitment and legacy of those who have dedicated their lives to the service of the population in Formosa. The reopening ceremony took place at the end of October and was presided over by Fr Carlos Bosio, director of the Museum and of the Salesian House in Formosa. The Salesian community chose the name of the museum in tribute to Father Carmelo Sciullo, a Salesian missionary priest who arrived in Formosa in 1976 and who worked tirelessly for the population in Formosa and who was above all an eminent defender of the rights of the native populations of the region. Every corner and piece of the Father Carmelo Sciullo Museum tells a story and honours the commitment, dedication and legacy of the Salesians in Formosa, a presence that this year celebrates its 75th anniversary.
