Rabaul, Papua New Guinea

Rabaul, Papua New Guinea - February 25, 2016 - "As Christians we want to build bridges.” With this sentence, on 25 February, Archbishop Francesco Panfilo, SDB, of Rabaul, blessed the Vunapope Bridge at Rabaul. Built in 1830, the bridge gives access to the main cathedral of Vunapope. It was unusable for some time, before being restored by the Nivani Company.

(ANS – Genzano, Rome) – When Don Bosco arrived in Turin, he came up against a hell. Don Cafasso led him to the streets to let him know the reality. Don Bosco saw the real and true misery: slavery, prison, people sentenced to death, exploited children, abandoned youth without their parents, without a home, without education, without religion. After more than one hundred years, the Sons of Don Bosco continue to live this drama of the youth, but give it some responses. The Salesian novices of Genzano, in Rome, want to be another Don Bosco in our time.

(ANS – Roma) – On February 27th, Fr. Ángel Fernández Artime, Rector Major, will leave to Cambodia, the first leg of a trip to East Asia which will take him to encounter the Salesian Family of three Provinces: Thailand, Philippines North and Philippines South.

(ANS – Suva) – “In the early afternoon of 20 February, the winds began to intensify. By sunset it was terrifying to see the winds and rain bend huge trees, snap branches, rip roofs from buildings, tear through vegetation and dwellings”, Fr. James K. Hoe, SDB, speaks about the horrific experience of the Tropical Cyclone Winston.
