This action is part of the initiative "Go Green for the Care of the Common Home", organized, on the basis of the World Environment Day, which is celebrated on Saturday 5 June, by the CNSPJ together with the State Coordination of Salesian Social Platforms, the Confederation the Don Bosco Youth Centers, the Salesian Schools, “Misiones Salesianas” and the NGOs “Jóvenes y Desarrollo” and “Bosco Global”.
The pandemic meant "a pause" in the work for integral ecology, but it also offers a new opportunity to promote a green reconstruction of the planet. Hence the proposal of these free webinars, with which the Salesian world intends to reflect on the planet's current situation, raise awareness of how the effects of the climate crisis are affecting the planet, make visible the Church's response to this challenge and highlight the work that the Salesians are doing for the care of the Common Home and for vulnerable people in Spain and throughout the world.
"Our commitment, as Salesian organizations, is to protect and care for the planet through education and awareness. We want to provoke a transforming experience in young people and make them commit to change from a personal and collective point of view," explained Fr Núñez.
Two webinars have already been created along this path:
- The South against the effects of climate change, where they talked about how the effects of climate change are affecting the populations of the South of the world, and some good practices were presented.
- Building a sustainable and inclusive economy where Enrique Lluch, professor at the CEU University of Valencia, explained how a better planet can be built and how to involve everyone in this process.
Three more webinars are planned for the near future:
- For 8 June;
- Education and eco-social change, with the participation of prof. Rafael Díaz Salazar, of the Faculty of Political Sciences of the Complutense University of Madrid (Thursday 10 June, from 6:00 to 7:00 pm, broadcast on the CNSPJ YouTube channel).
- Young people, protagonists of the ecological movement. With the participation of Pilar Blasco, President of the Confederation of Don Bosco Youth Centers; Sandra Mateos Sabel, Coordinator of the Auryn de León association; and Ana Collado Mateos, spokesperson for non-formal education and ecological transition of the Spanish Youth Council (CJE). (Saturday 12 June, from 12:00 to 13:30, also broadcast on the CNSPJ YouTube channel).
