The celebration began with a historical overview of the parish and with the explanation of the construction process by the director of ETINAR, the construction company. Subsequently the Bishop, to begin the consecration of the parish, knocked on the door three times, commemorating the three days passed before the Resurrection of Christ. Once this passage was concluded, the religious and all the citizens entered the procession, thus beginning the Eucharist.
"At this moment, in which we are inaugurating this Church dedicated to Our Lady of the Rosary, we feel sentiments of joy and satisfaction being born. I want to say that 'She had done everything', as Don Bosco said. This Church that we inaugurate today will be a place of prayer and meeting for our young people of the 'Collegio St Joseph' and for all those who will come," said the Provincial.
From 16 April 2016, the day of the earthquake, the Salesian Congregation, benefactors and parishioners have in fact responded to the need to rebuild this Church.
The parish of "Our Lady of the Rosary" was consecrated on 1 April 1944 by bishop Nicanor Gavilanes, apostolic administrator of Portoviejo. Fr Julio Haro was its first pastor. During the early years, the place of worship was a chapel built with the help of the locals, where an image of the Virgin of the Rosary was venerated. The first church was then built by Fr Aldo Canzi in 1970; since then, 22 Salesian parish priests have followed.
Currently, the catechesis of the Parish of Our Lady of the Rosary is taught in 5 centers, which are: the Mary Help of Christians Oratory, the Saint Joseph Missionary Center; the Church of the Apostles Peter and Paul, the Educational Unit Leonie Aviat and the Salesian Oratory of St. Joseph.
