Bolivia – "You miss the neighborhood": online youth program to convey valid message

04 July 2019

(ANS - Cochabamba) - A great show of talent took place last June 30 at the Salesian house in Cochabamba, after an invitation had been launched to young volunteers wanting to experiment being leaders of a youth program. Several young people responded to the call, and did their best to try to convince a very demanding jury.

In fact, in August the production of the "Te falta barrio" program will be launched, promoted by the Province's Communication Office and supported by the Social Communication Delegation, by the Bolivia Planning and Development Office (OFPROBOL) and from the NGO "VIA Don Bosco".

"Te falta barrio" is a program that has taken as its title a simple and everyday slogan. Under this motto, however, it is a question of offering a formation proposal to all the adolescents and young people to whom the program will be presented. The "barrio" is how the place where they meet to talk, play, share their things, is commonly called. In this sense, the program will try to introduce a message that speaks of God in a reality in which religion is not a topic of conversation. "It is a challenge for the protagonists and for the whole team to try to offer a proposal that comes close to the reality of young people and that can transmit the Christian message in a simple way, simple and attractive."

"Te falta barrio" will try to convey to the young the messages of the Catechism of the Church together with experiences of social significance, all adapted to the visual and technological tastes of young people who do not have an experience of faith. Bringing the message of the Gospel never goes out of fashion, but it must be adapted to the new courtyards and playgrounds attended by young people.

Saint John Bosco was defined as "Father and Teacher of Youth": he taught young people the way to good, advising them to go to confession and receive frequent communion, and he showed them love for Jesus in the Eucharist and Mary.

All those who participated in the casting on June 30 were invited to collaborate in different ways on the program, so that no one is excluded from this initiative - and then by consolidating them as a group of young people, it will be possible to create new audiovisual initiatives with a social value.

"If Don Bosco were still alive, he would certainly be present among modern technologies, in social networks and in a program like the one being planned, which has as its fundamental objective to be closer to young people," explained Fr Severino Laredo, Director of the Provincial House of Cochabamba.
