RMG – Visit of the Rector Major to the “Red Island”

(ANS - Rome) - A Salesian presence now fairly well established with the first works started in 1981, a hundred Salesians and 11 canonically erected houses: this is the situation the Rector Major, Fr Ángel Fernández Artime, will meet on his visit to the Mary Immaculate Vice-Province of Madagascar from today 30 March to 4 April.

The visit of the Rector Major to the Vice-Province began on Tuesday 29 March. This morning he had some official business. Fr Á.F. Artime, accompanied by his secretary, Fr Horacio López, is engaged in two different meetings with the Council of the Vice- Province and the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians (FMA) who are present there.

On Thursday the central event of the day will be a meeting with all the Salesians on the island, following a format that Fr Á.F. Artime has used in all his leadership visits.

On Friday there are meetings planned with members of the Salesian Youth Movement and members of the Salesian Family. On Saturday the Rector Major will move to Betafo, where he will meet the young people of the Oratory and visit the nearby house of the FMA. On Sunday, the Feast of Divine Mercy, he will take part in a major celebration of the Eucharist at Betafo.

From Tuesday 5 to Thursday 7 April the Rector Major will preside at CIVAM, the Conference of Superiors of the Provinces and Vice-Provinces of the Africa-Madagascar region.
