First of all, they were able to build some wells in different villages - Olaw, Pinkio, Thatha, Abol, etc. "Many friends are helping, with the project 'A well for Andrea' especially Signora Elizabetta. She is a tireless lady who in recent years has already built 15 wells around Ethiopia in memory of her son Andrea" says Fr Perin.
A new mill was acquired for Aukoy. The one that was there before had been broken for years and the village women had to do 10 km on foot to reach the nearest mill, grind wheat and make flour and then make polenta, the basic food for the local people, the Anyuak.
Throughout Lent, Fr Filippo Perin, an Italian missionary who has been working for many years in Pugnido, travelled round the villages showing a film about Jesus in the Anyuak language. " This is one of the many films about Jesus, very nice and simple,” says Fr Perin. “The Protestants of Addis Ababa have dubbed it in various languages, including Anyuak." Fr Perin has covered the 11 mission stations, with a big screen 4 metres by 3 put together with sheets and erected in clearings in the villages. He also has a generator, a projector, a DVD player and speakers. At each screening the people participated with great attention "and at the end when Jesus rises, there was always a long applause for the joy of seeing him alive," said Fr Perin.
Many activities, therefore; but Fr Perin does not forget the profound sense of mission: "we are here not only to bring something, but especially to share their life and their difficulties, in order to and help the people to have self-confidence and to think about their lives in the future with hope."
