Nalgonda is a town of approximately 110,000 inhabitants, situated in the heart of an agricultural district long affected by poverty and underdevelopment. Today, the situation has worsened due to climate change: prolonged droughts alternate with destructive floods, threatening crops and making the livelihoods of local communities increasingly precarious.

Most families, composed mainly of poor and often uneducated farmers, struggle daily to meet basic needs such as food, education, and healthcare. In this challenging environment, Don Bosco Academy serves as a beacon of hope, offering young people from rural areas a high-quality education that opens doors to growth and development opportunities.

Overcoming Transportation Challenges

The Salesian institute is located in an area where nearly half of the population lives in poverty, and agriculture is the main source of income. One of the major challenges the school faced was the lack of an efficient public transportation system, which made it difficult for both students and qualified teachers to reach the school.

Thanks to international Salesian support, particularly through the work of the Salesian Mission Office in Turin, "Missioni Don Bosco," the Salesian mission in Nalgonda was recently able to acquire a school bus. This has had a significant impact on the lives of many children and their families, providing them with access to quality, holistic education, and through it, the possibility of a better future.

Transformative Impact of the School Bus

This safe and efficient means of transportation has:
✅ Increased school enrollment, raising student numbers from 315 to 450.
✅ Improved attendance and punctuality for both students and teachers.
✅ Reduced school dropout rates, allowing more young people to complete their education.
✅ Enhanced safety, ensuring a secure and comfortable journey for children.
✅ Facilitated staff mobility, improving teaching quality and overall school operations.

The benefits of this project extend beyond just the school; they positively impact families and the entire community. Families have experienced reduced financial and logistical burdens related to school transportation, while the community has witnessed educational progress and the development of a more supportive environment for youth growth and learning.
