Ecuador – "Mano Solidaria" Group, a ray of hope in the Cristo Rey parish of La Tola

06 December 2024

(ANS – Quito) – In the Cristo Rey parish  community in the La Tola district of Quito, a laudable initiative is now well underway that shines with the light of solidarity and fraternal love: the "Mano Solidaria" (Solidarity Hand) group. This team works diligently to assist the poorest and most vulnerable and offers a clear testimony of the Salesian spirit in action, working under the aegis and in communion of intent with the parish and the Salesian community of the St Francis of Assisi postnovitiate.

Every month, the doors of the postnovitiate open wide to welcome the members of this group. In an atmosphere of warmth and welcome, the beneficiaries of the Mano Solidaria initiative meet at the facilities of the Salesian house to share experiences, pray and receive a complete formation, ranging from catechesis to psychological accompaniment. A dedicated team of psychologists joins this effort, providing support and guidance to those who need it most, helping them find the light in their darkest moments.

In addition, in a gesture of concrete generosity, participants receive a bag of food and essential items, help that alleviates their immediate needs and reminds them that they are not alone in their difficulties. This is concrete help symbolising the community's commitment to those in difficult situations, providing not only physical sustenance but also emotional and spiritual strength.

Fridays are particularly significant, because the members of the Mano Solidaria group make home visits to the homes of each participant. During these visits, bonds of friendship are created and the sense of community is strengthened, encouraging each person to progress in the struggle with their difficulties with renewed hope. These meetings are a reflection of true love for others, where every gesture and word becomes a bridge to a better life.

This work, which flourishes in the heart of the parish and the community, is a living example of the love and mercy of God manifested in the world. Through concrete actions and willing hearts, Mano Solidaria brings the embrace of Christ to the most needy, reminding everyone that in every act of love it expresses the love of God that is present in history and transforms lives.

In this way, the Mano Solidaria group not only contributes to alleviating material difficulties, but also sows hope and faith, reaffirming that God's mercy is infinite and always within the reach of those who choose to live it and share it with others.
