Chile – Meet the Chilean winners of the DBGYFF 2024

(ANS – Santiago) – "Conexión Natural", an audiovisual work by Centro Salesianos Talca won the award for best animation in the eight best-in-class category, at the third edition of the "Don Bosco Global Youth Film Festival" (DBGYFF 2024), at the awards ceremony held on 18 October in the United States.

Students Patricio Jara, Renato Díaz, Nicolás Albornoz, Renato Olave, Benjamín Ponce and Tomás Castro, fourth graders at the Salesianos Talca Educational Centre, worked for five months together with teacher Karel Fonseca on the short film made with the stop motion technique, portraying a problem in the Maule region in which ecosystems are harmed by hydroelectric plants. The students will receive a prize of one thousand euro.

In addition, five Chilean short films were selected among the 10 best regional films in America South Cone, along with others from Brazil, Argentina and Uruguay. Each of the teams will receive a thousand euro in prize money.

"Nymphs of the Earth" and "Our memories are born from ashes" by Salesians Puerto Montt; and "Revealing Dreams", "Lost Dreams" and "Unconsciousness" by the Salesians Alameda Educational Centre won a prize of one thousand euro each.

Emilia Oyarzo, Javiera Hernández, Savka Agüero, Carla Díaz; middle school students from Salesian Puerto Montt are responsible for "Nymphs of the Earth", a short film with a metaphorical approach that links feminism with nature.

"Our memories are born from ashes" by Laura Hernández, a middle school student from Salesian Puerto Montt, addressed the problem of forest fires through animation.

Joaquín Araya, Francisco Gomez, Esteban Encina, Valentín Peña, Vicente Cossio and Diego Torres, students in third grade B at the Salesians Alameda Educational Centre worked on "Revealing Dreams", a work that seeks to generate actions that allow reversing the anguish caused by the current environmental situation.

"Lost Dreams" was prepared by Guillermo Aguirre, Sebastián Rodriguez, Lucas Orellana, Lussio Suarez, Miguel Triviño, Nicolás Caballero and Lorenzo Lagos, third grade students at the Alameda Salesian Centre. The young people were inspired by how climate change is mortgaging the dreams of future generations.

"In-consciousness" was produced by Gabriel Aravena, Francisco Cáceres, Davies Larico, Darío Paillalí, Gabriel Rojas, Ian Riffo, Josué Tudela and Javier Romo, students in third grade B HC, who expressed their happiness and gratitude for the recognition, highlighting that the recording and editing experience was very rewarding.
