The event, which lasted a total of five hours, began with a song made specifically for the tenth anniversary, entitled "We Shall Arise". The piece was composed and performed by Assistant Professor Simon Subba and his team of fifth semester students.
The department which started with six students joining the undergraduate program in Mass Communication and Journalism in 2014, today has some 90 students in the three year program, and another 80 students in the first batch of 4 year dual major program. Today there are 90 in the three-year programme and another 80 students in the first group of the four-year double specialisation programme.
Adjunct Professor Bhabya Chandra Khati visually presented the Department's ten-year journey, recalling the former faculty members, excellent students, flagship events and unique facilities on offer. Among the latter are "Salesian Radio 90.8 FM" and "Salesian TV", which students use for weekly radio and television coverage of the Siliguri and Darjeeling campuses.
Nishal Lama, the creative director of Beyond Crimson Siliguri, a multidisciplinary integrated marketing communications agency, held a two-hour photography workshop, giving a live demonstration on the use of light in corporate photography and engaging students in an interactive question-and-answer session.
The event finally ended with the screening of the films in competition, the awards ceremony and the cake cutting.
